Hey
For months, I was a ChatGPT person. You can say I was a ChatGPT loyalist.
Not because I tested both and made a smart decision. I just defaulted to ChatGPT because it was the first AI I ever opened. That was it. That was the entire reason. No research. No comparison. Just habit.
Every time someone mentioned Claude, I nodded and moved on. I had 47 tabs open. I did not have time for a new tool. My prompts were already saved in ChatGPT. My workflow was already there. Switching felt like moving houses when your current one is fine.
So I stayed stuck in fine.
Then three weeks ago I actually sat down with Claude Cowork. Not Claude the chatbot. The actual desktop tool Anthropic built for people who want to get real work done, without touching a single line of code.
What happened next changed how I work every single day.

The thing nobody tells you about Claude Cowork
It is not a chat window. It is a work environment.
You have a chat panel on the left. A live preview panel on the right. You talk to Claude. The output appears right there on the right side in real time. Diagrams, decks, reports, flowcharts. No downloading. No switching tabs. No copying and pasting into another app.
I asked it to build a sales pipeline diagram. It opened the diagram right next to our conversation. I kept chatting, kept refining, kept watching it change live.
I sat there thinking: I have been doing this the hard way for months.
Here is what makes it actually work
The first thing I changed: one task, one thread.
This one sounds obvious but I was not doing it. I would have ChatGPT open with 8 different conversations going, all bleeding into each other. Claude Cowork works differently. Every new task gets a new thread. Every project gets its own folder.
Why does this matter? Because the less noise Claude has to deal with, the sharper the output gets. The model literally performs better with a cleaner context. I tested this myself. Same task. Messy thread vs fresh thread. The fresh thread won every single time.
Now I open a new thread before I start any task. It takes two seconds and the difference is obvious.
The second thing: Plan Mode.
This is the feature I wish someone had told me about on day one.
Before Claude touches your task, Plan Mode makes it think. Map it out. Ask you the questions you did not know needed asking.
With ChatGPT I was getting answers immediately. Felt fast. Felt productive. Except half the time the output was not quite what I wanted because I had not actually clarified what I wanted. I just typed and hoped.
Plan Mode closes that gap. You tell Claude what you need. It tells you what it understood. You correct anything wrong. Then it executes.
That gap between what you meant and what AI produced? Plan Mode eliminates it.

The third thing: Skills.
This is where it stops feeling like a tool and starts feeling like a system.
A Skill in Claude Cowork is a saved prompt for any task you repeat regularly. Think of it like training someone once so they deliver the same result forever, without you re-explaining yourself every single session.
I built a Skill for my newsletter emails. It knows my tone. It knows my format. It knows the rules I follow. Every single time I open a new session, Claude already knows how I write. I do not re-explain. I do not copy and paste instructions. I just describe the task and it runs.
Newsletter people specifically need to hear this. The time you spend re-teaching Claude your writing style in every session adds up to hours every week. Skills eliminates that entirely.
The setup takes maybe 20 minutes once. Then it pays you back every single day after that.
Why I stayed on ChatGPT for so long (and why that was a mistake)
Familiarity is expensive. It feels like comfort but it is actually cost.
Every week I spent on a tool that was giving me 60% of what was available, I was paying with time, with output quality, with work I had to redo or fix manually. I just could not see it because I had no reference point.
The moment I had something to compare it to, I could not unsee it.
I am not saying ChatGPT is bad. I am saying I was coasting on a default decision I made the day I first opened a browser. That is not a strategy. That is just inertia.
Claude Cowork is free to try. It runs in your browser right now. No setup. No installation required. No terminal. No technical knowledge at all.
The only thing between you and trying it today is the same thing that kept me away for months.
Habit.
Break it. Open it. Run one task through it this week.
Then reply and tell me what happened. I read every single reply and I want to know where you land on this.
